Backyard Wonderland: Creating a Kids Play Space In Your Backyard

Having children made me look at my home's backyard from a whole new perspective. As my little ones started walking, I began to see how I could turn my backyard into a playground that was safe and secure for them to play. After spending a lot of time researching the safety and stability of the play structures and materials that were out there, I built a play area that's secure and fun for my kids. I created this site to share all of the ideas that I had as well as some other things I've found over the years to help other parents create the perfect play space to bring the family together at home.

Suspect You Have Mice in Your Home? Here’s What to Do!

Mice are some of the most common pests that homeowners and renters might encounter in their homes. They may seem like dirty and harmless creatures, but they can spread diseases and cause damage to your property. Knowing what to do when you suspect mice in your home can help you prevent the spread of diseases and costly damage.

This blog will discuss what signs to look for when you suspect mice and what steps to take to get rid of them in your home.

Signs of Mice

When mice invade your home, they leave behind numerous indicators that can signal their existence. Some of the most common signs include:

  • Scratching sounds: If you notice scratching sounds emanating from walls, ceilings, or other hidden areas, it could indicate the presence of mice nesting and scurrying about.
  • Droppings: Mice leave small, dark-colored droppings that look like tiny grains of rice, especially in areas they frequent, such as around food packaging or along baseboards.
  • Gnaw marks: Mice have the habit of gnawing on things, including electrical wires, food packaging, and wood. If you notice small holes or teeth marks around these areas, it may be a sign of their presence.

What to Do if You Suspect Mice

If you are seeing any of the signs mentioned above, here’s what to do:

  • Inspect your home: Inspect your home thoroughly to locate the problem areas and identify the extent of the infestation.
  • Seal entry points: Mice usually enter the home through small cracks or gaps, so sealing these entry points with steel wool or foam is necessary.
  • Use traps or bait: When choosing traps or bait, select options that are humane and effective. Glue traps, snap traps, and bait stations are all good options, depending on your situation.
  • Clean up food sources: To prevent mice from being drawn to your food, ensure that you store it in containers that are airtight and promptly clean up any spills or crumbs.
  • Call a professional: If you have a larger infestation or prefer not to handle the issue yourself, consider hiring a professional exterminator to help you get rid of the mice.

Mice are persistent pests that may make you feel uncomfortable and grossed out. The best way to prevent an infestation is to keep your home clean, seal any gaps or crevices, and use humane traps or baits if necessary. If you find that you have a larger problem than you anticipated, don't hesitate to call a professional. By taking these steps, you can ensure that your home remains safe and free from these unwanted pests.
