Backyard Wonderland: Creating a Kids Play Space In Your Backyard

Having children made me look at my home's backyard from a whole new perspective. As my little ones started walking, I began to see how I could turn my backyard into a playground that was safe and secure for them to play. After spending a lot of time researching the safety and stability of the play structures and materials that were out there, I built a play area that's secure and fun for my kids. I created this site to share all of the ideas that I had as well as some other things I've found over the years to help other parents create the perfect play space to bring the family together at home.

Insight To Help You Brighten Up Your Home's Interior By Adding Color And Variety

You spend a great deal of time relaxing and sharing time with friends and family inside your home, and its appearance can have a big effect on you and anyone who visits you. Along with keeping your home interior orderly and clean, you can also add colors to your home to help improve its interior environment. Here are some tips to add color and variety in your home's interior.

Display and Use Accent Pieces

Accent pieces within your home add to your home's interior color schemes, draw attention to specific areas within your home, and can be useful to everyday life. Positioning a pop of color within a room in two or three spots will create visual interest in the room and brighten the room significantly even though there is little color used.

For example, you can buy colorful decorative glass vases online and display them throughout your home as statement or accent pieces. A glass or ceramic vase that is a bright robin's egg blue can set off your decor of neutral grays, white, and black and add a bright spot of color to the room. Place a glass vase on the mantle and a matching one of a different design on an end table or coffee table, then add a vase with similar coloring on a bookshelf to tie all the pieces together.

The great part with using glass vases is that you can also use them for holding fresh-cut flowers. A clear glass vase also provides a holding vessel for interesting objects, such as decorative glass beads or shells and colorful pebbles you find on the beach. You can additionally fill your glass vases with holiday candy for you and your guests to enjoy when you entertain.

Install Decorative Window Coverings

Decorative window coverings inside your home can also help improve your interior surroundings while helping to control the comfort level. You can add full draperies to a window to help accent the room's color scheme and to also block out light and the sun's radiation during the summer. Then, when you want to warm the room in winter or take advantage of the sun's natural light outside, you can open the draperies.

There are many other styles of window drapes and window blinds to install on your home's windows. For example, cafe curtains are hung across the middle of the window to provide privacy along the bottom of the window but allow sunlight to enter through the top portion of the window. A simple valence across the top of your window can also add color and frame the window's exterior view.

Paint Your Home Interior

Another easy option to add some color to your home is by painting one or more walls in each of your home's rooms. With each room painted a different color, you can create a different and unique feeling to each room. Then, as you move from room to room in your home, the colors can affect your mood in different ways.

Keep in mind that different colors can affect your mood: some for good and some for bad. For example, blue is a color that is associated with sadness, but it can also help you relax, bring calmness and order, and might be a good option for your bedroom or your home office. On the other hand, orange is a color that often associated with warmth and comfort but can also make you feel creative and playful and increase your energy levels.

Orange may be a good color for a family gathering room or children's playroom. Also, yellow is a color that stimulates positive feelings and optimism, which can be helpful throughout your day.
