Backyard Wonderland: Creating a Kids Play Space In Your Backyard

Having children made me look at my home's backyard from a whole new perspective. As my little ones started walking, I began to see how I could turn my backyard into a playground that was safe and secure for them to play. After spending a lot of time researching the safety and stability of the play structures and materials that were out there, I built a play area that's secure and fun for my kids. I created this site to share all of the ideas that I had as well as some other things I've found over the years to help other parents create the perfect play space to bring the family together at home.

A Guide To Sprucing Up Your Newly Finished Basement

When you need to be certain that you are able to get the most out of your newly finished basement, there are a whole bunch of additions that you will want to make for both decorative success and efficiency. This finished basement will become your favorite room in the house, whether you turn it into a full bar or a relaxation room. With this in mind, consider the tips below so that you can make the right purchases.

#1: Start with beautifying the walls

If you want your newly finished basement to look brand-new, bring a contractor that can provide a luxurious paint job. Now is the time to make the basement look exactly how you would like, so do not be afraid to get playful with the color schemes. Be sure that you purchase high quality paint and look at some swatches to truly make the room come alive. You may also consider decorating the walls with memorabilia, high resolution reproductions of photographs and other excellent decorative features that have personality. Custom wall decals can make your finished basement anything you want it to be — whether you are putting up team logos or fancy lettering. Make sure that the sticker color matches the wallpaper or paint scheme for best results.

#2: Arrange for the best lighting

Since you are dealing with the basement, chances are high that the room will be dark and drab unless you infuse it with excellent lighting. You can create a mood by installing new fixtures that set the tone. When you bring in a lighting contractor to handle the installation, ask them about their LED lighting options. LED lighting shines much brighter than traditional bulbs, while also emitting virtually no heat and saving you money on your electricity bills each month.

#3: Mount your televisions

No matter the vibe you're going for with your basement, it's not complete without some mounted televisions. You can create a sports bar environment by arranging three or four flat screens so that you can watch several games at once. Even if you only are installing one television, mounting it will make the setup look clean and chic. Getting a contractor to handle the wiring will cost upwards of $175, while the TV mount itself may cost as much as $500.

Think about these three things when you really want your newly finished basement to be the best room in the house.
